United Builds
On August 28, 2008, players and staff members from D.C. United paid a visit to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Ben Olsen, Quavas Kirk, Domenic Mediate, James Thorpe, Clyde Simms, and Craig Thompson dazzled the children by signing autographs and performing soccer tricks, while other United staff members entertained the young hospital patients by doing arts and crafts with them.
Danielle Leach of the Mason Leach Superstar Fund was also on hand to donate 300 soccer balls to the children at the hospital for a second time this year. The event was a great success, as the children spent a few hours during the day playing soccer and forgetting about why they were in the hospital to begin with. The visit to the Children’s National Medical Center is one of the many events that D.C. United coordinates to show its appreciation to the fans and community that have made the team such a success for over a decade. For more information on D.C. United community initiatives, visit www.unitedfordc.org. To learn about the Mason Leach Superstar Fund, go to www.masonleach.blogspot.com.
