John is an experienced, veteran performer for the Revs who offers a physical presence in the back … had a career year in 2006, taking the field in the 2006 FIFA World Cup for his native Trinidad & Tobago, and also laying claim to a regular starting spot with the Revolution … a rugged tackler and uncompromising defender, the left-footed John has the ability to match the fastest forwards in MLS with his speed and physicality … can play on the left in a three-man formation and either on the right or centrally in a four-man backline.
MLS Experience
2007: Started 18 of the 19 games in which he played during the regular season. Earned his first assist of the season - and first since 2005 - on Taylor Twellman's goal at D.C. on Sept. 9. Missed four games (Sept. 29 vs. COL, Oct. 3 at FDC - Open Cup final, Oct. 6 at CHI, Oct. 13 vs. CLB) with a left knee sprain, suffered in the Sept. 22 game at New York on a tackle by Juan Pablo Angel. Returned to the field in the team's season finale at Toronto on Oct. 20, starting and playing all 90 minutes before anchoring the left side of the defense in all four of the Revs' postseason games. Started his second consecutive MLS Cup title match. Was arguably the team's best defender in the postseason run as the Revs' defense allowed just two goals and posted three shutouts in four MLS Cup playoff games. Also made five appearances - all starts - for the Revs' reserves.2006: Settled into a starting roll after returning from the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Trinidad & Tobago. The Revs were undefeated during the regular season with John in the starting lineup, going 7-0-3 in his first-team appearances. Started all four postseason matches.
2005: Shuttling back-and-forth between the Revs and Trinidad & Tobago international duty for World Cup qualifying, John remained and important part of the Revs squad, providing leadership and experience for the team in vital situations.
2004: Within two weeks of being signed by the Revolution on May 19, John had earned a regular place in the New England central defense, starting 19 of the 21 league matches in which he appeared. Started all three Revolution playoff matches in 2004. Scored the only goal of the game in the Revs 1-0 win in Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Columbus Crew, a powerful 26-yard shot that beat Crew goalkeeper Jon Busch cleanly.
