MLS Experience
2007: Was limited to three first-team appearances, all as second-half substitutes before undergoing season-ending surgery in early July to repair a torn peroneal tendon in his right ankle. Missed much of the early season with the ankle injury and a personal leave of absence. Also made three reserve-team appearances, earning an assist against Chicago (May 6).2006: Appeared in 21 games after suffering pair of injuries (hamstring strain and ankle sprain) that caused him to miss 10 games. Set all three of New England's club longevity records and briefly held the Revs career records in appearances, starts and minutes played during the 2006 season. Started all four playoffs games in the midfield. Saw time at left back, left wing and central midfield during the season. Recorded his only assist of the season on Clint Dempsey's game-tying goal against D.C. on Sept. 13 at Gillette Stadium.
2005: Again wore the captain's armband for coach Steve Nicol whenever on the field. Recorded three assists, the fifth time in his career he reached that mark. Tallied assists in back-to-back games in September (Sept. 10 vs. Columbus and Sept. 17 at New York.). Started all four of the Revs' postseason games as New England made its second appearance in MLS Cup.
2004: Once again served as Revolution club captain. Injuries limited Franchino to 20 regular-season games and kept him out of playoff action. Had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and also his partially detached gluteus medius (hip) muscle on Oct.15. Scored his only goal of the season on May 1 against his former team, the Los Angeles Galaxy. Made his 100th appearance and 100th start as member of the Revolution on May 22, 2004 against the MetroStars.
2003: A steadying presence on the left side of the defense, starting 25 games, while collecting a goal and four assists. The lone goal was the game-winner in overtime of the Revs' 3-2 win over Columbus on Sept. 28. A late season calf injury stopped him from setting personal single-season highs in minutes played. Tallied new personal bests in shots (25) and shots on goal (8) as the Revs returned to the Eastern Conference Final.
2002: His man-marking abilities and physical play shored up the Revs' defense as the Revs made their first-ever appearance in MLS Cup. His leadership qualities and ability to contribute effectively to the attack earned him the captain's armband. Scored one goal and added a career-high five assists while starting all 23 games in which he played. Started all seven postseason games, playing all 673 minutes of the playoffs. Recorded an assist on Taylor Twellman's game-winning goal against Chicago in game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. His presence in the backline helped the Revs to earn a playoff GAA of 0.67.
2001: Started all 23 games in which he played. Saw time both on the back line and in the midfield. Recorded one assist on the season - on Andy Williams' goal on Sept. 7 against the MetroStars in what was eventually the final game of the regular season.
2000: Selected by the Revolution in the MLS Special Draft and became a starter on the left flank of the team's defense. Appeared in eight games for Los Angeles before moving to New England. Moved from the defensive position to the attacking midfield once with the Revs, where he sparked the attack during the club's late season run to the playoffs. Scored the first two goals of his MLS career in the final game of the regular season, a 4-3 victory against the MetroStars at Foxboro Stadium on Sept. 9. His second strike was the game-winning goal and the victory secured the Revs a berth in 2002 MLS Cup Playoffs.
1999: Played 25 games and logged 1,316 minutes, recording three assists. Helped the Galaxy earn a spot in MLS Cup, but did not play as L.A. fell to D.C. United 2-0 at Foxboro Stadium.
