Frei Heads To South Africa

Toronto FC announced Tuesday, that goalkeeper Stefan Frei will head to South Africa on Friday, November 27 for the annual Generation Adidas post season trip abroad.

Frei, seen here picking up a club award last week, heads to South Africa later this week.

The Generation Adidas program was established ahead of the 2005 MLS season and is a player development program that identifies and nurtures the elite youth soccer talent in the United States.

The 18 man roster will depart from Washington, D.C and will have a full agenda before leaving South Africa on December 7.

Frei, 23 a member of the Generation Adidas program was nominated for the MLS Gatorade Rookie of the Year, and also was awarded the Toronto FC Rookie of the Year, and Defender of the Year honours.

Former Toronto FC and current Glasgow Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu was also a member of Generation Adidas. Players who join MLS as part of the program receive opportunities to develop their game, and receive educational grants to further their college education.

Some of the highlights for the South Africa trip are as follows:

November 27 - Depart Washington DC
November 29 - Training Session
November 30 - Friendly game vs. Orlando Pirates reserves and Visit Nelson Mandela's House
December 1 - Visit "Apartheid Museum"
December 3 - Friendly game TBD
December 4 -2010 FIFA World Cup Draw team appearance
December 5 - Opening of first FIFA Football for Hope Centre (appearance)
December 6 - Friendly match vs. Ajax Cape Town reserves
