SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Shea Salinas visited Forest Hill School on Friday, Oct. 2, as part of the Earthquakes community outreach program. Salinas was first introduced to the students by physical education teacher Margo Cohn and was welcomed with overwhelming cheers and applause.

The Texas native stressed the impact a healthy diet and active lifestyle had on his life growing up. Salinas explained to the children how the choices he made to eat healthy foods helped him achieve his goal of becoming a professional soccer player. The children were very interested in learning Salinas' eating habits in hopes to be more like him. He spoke about how small choices like choosing vegetables and fruit over candy and fast foods can have a big impact on your well-being.

After Salinas finished speaking, he performed some dribbling and juggling tricks for the fourth and fifth graders in attendance. He then opened the floor to a question and answer session. The children had a lot of soccer knowledge and asked Salinas many questions about his life both on and off the field. He then posed for pictures with each individual class.

The afternoon concluded with Fit for Learning coordinator Michelle Mount talking to the students about maintaining an active lifestyle. She then had a group of children perform hula hoop and jump rope demonstrations on the stage. Salinas also joined in the hula-hooping, delighting the students in attendance.
