Juniors Update: Youth teams begin play

U-16 team to compete this weekend in Las Vegas Showcase

All five KCW Juniors youth development program teams were back in action last weekend, starting their season two weeks before the Wizards first team opens the 2009 Major League Soccer season. Kansas City's MLS home opener comes next Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. CT against Toronto FC at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The KCW Juniors U-16 team will play this weekend at the Las Vegas Showcase.

Last weekend, the KCW Juniors U-15 and U-16 teams each finished 1st in their respective divisions, while the U-13 team finished in 2nd place. The U-17 and U-18 teams competed in a college showcase bracket where standings were not kept. U-13 player Steven Enna led all KCW Juniors players with six goals.

Juniors teams went 15-3-1 overall with a +55 goal differential and 11 shutouts last weekend in Springfield, home of Wizards midfielder Jack Jewsbury. KCW Juniors U-16 and U-18 teams will join the U.S. Soccer Development Academy next fall.
