Weekly update: Osorio out as coach
Chicago Fire President/CEO John Guppy will also deliver the "Fire State of the Team Address"
The Chicago Fire announced today that Juan Carlos Osorio resigned as head coach of the Fire. Osorio replaced Dave Sarachan, as the third head coach of the Fire on July 7. He made his Fire debut on July 17, taking over a team that stood three games under .500 (4-7-4) and seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.
In his three months at the helm, Osorio led "Men in Red" into the playoffs, stringing together a 10-game unbeaten streak (second-longest in team history) that elevated the Fire to a 10-10-10 mark and a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Fire knocked off top-seed D.C. United in the MLS Cup playoffs and just missed making the Final with a 1-0 loss to New England on Nov. 8. The Fire will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
"Despite the Fire's best efforts to keep Juan in Chicago, he determined that he needed to leave Chicago for family and personal reasons," said Fire President John Guppy. "While we certainly respect his decision, the timing of the departure was unexpected and is unfortunate. All of our attention is now focused on finding the right coach for our team."
