Dallas forward Jason Kreis scored the game-winning goal, his 18th strike of the season, to lead the Burn to a 2-1 victory over the Eastern Conference third-place Tampa Bay Mutiny at Raymond James Stadium last night. Kreis' final tally of the regular season powered the four-year striker to earn MLS' Budweiser Scoring Championship (18 goals, 15 assist, 51 points). For his performance, Kreis was voted the MLS Player of the Week for the week ending October 10, 1999.

Kreis' 82nd-minute goal broke a three-way deadlock in the standings between Dallas, Chicago and Colorado, allowing the Burn to clinch the West's No. 2 playoff seed, giving Dallas home-field advantage against third-place Chicago in the Conference Semifinals. Kreis' goal enabled him to become only the fourth player in MLS history to amass more than 50 points in a single season, joining the distinguished Roy Lassiter (1996, 58 points), Stern John (1998, 57 points), and Cobi Jones (1998, 51 points). The goal was also Kreis' sixth game-winner of the year.

Kreis, a leading candidate for the 1999 Honda MVP, surpassed Cobi Jones' 1998 record of five to become the league's most-awarded Player of the Week. The Duke graduate is also one of two players (Jones in 1998) to grab the title in consecutive weeks.

Kreis was selected as the MLS Player of the Week for the record sixth time this season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA). Others receiving votes for the Week 30 honor were: Dallas midfielder Oscar Pareja, who assisted on both goals in the 2-1 win over Tampa Bay; and Los Angeles goalkeeper Kevin Hartma, who saved all five of Kansas City's shots on goal in a 1-0 Galaxy victory Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.
